Poems to make you feel better
This Might Help is a project by YYC Poet Laureate Natalie Meisner. Here you will find a listenable repository of poems that might ease what ails you written by and for Calgarians and the world.
No one expects poetry to solve the real world problems facing us right now. It can never substitute for food or shelter. We cannot eat a poem, nor will it set a broken bone. Poetry can, however, stitch up a broken heart, help us see the world through one another’s eyes and find beauty in odd places.
Reading, writing and listening to poetry can help us find hope when we need it most.
Make a Request
Is there a topic or an experience you would like addressed? Something you wish someone would craft a poem about, just for you? Now is your chance, make a request here and one of our poets will craft an original piece and record it here for your listening pleasure.
Just like a walk in nature, creating something is one of those unquestionably beneficial activities for human beings. Take this writing prompt in the spirit of a gift. Sit down with a cup of tea, in a quiet spot and give it a try.
Submissions are open to poets from Calgary and across Canada. Authors of audio poems chosen for submission will be paid. One submission per poet, please.
Previously published poems are acceptable, as long as you have retained the copyright and they respond to the theme.
Deadline for submissions: Feb. 14, 2021.
